Rising Cybercrime Calls for Skilled Defenders: Engineers’ Day Appeal from AiCyber.Guru

By Somendra Nath Tiwari, Founder – AiCyber.Guru, Somendra@AiCyber.Guru

CISSP, MBA IIM Lucknow, September 15, 2025 — As India observes Engineers’ Day in tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the focus extends beyond innovation to safeguarding. In today’s world where digital infrastructure drives banking, healthcare, education, and governance, engineers are not just creators—they are protectors of the digital frontier.

This year, AiCyber.Guru, a cybersecurity education and consulting startup headquartered in Lucknow, is urging engineers, students, and professionals to pledge:
To combat cybercrime, spread awareness, and master the skills needed to prevent cyberattacks.

Cybercrime Is Rising—And Growing More Sophisticated

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), India logged over 17.82 lakh cybercrime complaints between 2018 and 2022. While swift response by cyber cells and helplines like 1930 saved ₹5,489 crore, the report cautions against surging threats such as AI-powered scams, deepfake frauds, and social engineering attacks.

AiCyber.Guru’s research highlights alarming real-world incidents:

Case 1: The Doctor’s Digital Arrest – ₹2.81 Crore Stolen
A doctor in Lucknow was misled into believing she faced charges from TRAI and CBI. Trapped in a fabricated “digital arrest” for eight days, she unknowingly surrendered access to five bank accounts. Fraudsters drained ₹2.81 crore while she endured psychological manipulation.

Lesson: Digital arrests are fake and illegal tactics. Stay cautious—warn friends and family to avoid such traps.

Case 2: UPI Scam – ₹56,000 Lost in Seconds
A student in Noida received a call from a fake delivery agent demanding a ₹5 verification fee. After clicking a UPI link and entering her PIN, ₹56,000 vanished from her account within minutes. Although the cyber helpline (1930) was alerted, only partial recovery was possible.

Lesson: Never click unsolicited payment links. Always verify sources and use official apps.

Case 3: Nation-State Cyberwarfare – Infrastructure Targeted
During geopolitical conflicts, malware like IsaacWiper and LoadEdge attacked telecom, energy, and financial networks. Fake surrender messages aired on national TV, and critical data was erased from servers—demonstrating cyberattacks as modern warfare tools.

Lesson: Cyberattacks are now weapons of strategy. Protecting critical infrastructure demands trained defenders and robust national preparedness.

These stories aren’t just warnings—they are urgent calls to act.

AiCyber.Guru: Training India’s Next-Gen Cyber Defenders

Founded by Somendra Nath Tiwari, a telecom and cybersecurity veteran with over 20 years of experience at Microsoft, Nokia, Jio, and Motorola, AiCyber.Guru is more than a startup—it’s a movement.

As an official EC-Council partner, AiCyber.Guru provides globally recognized cybersecurity certifications, preparing learners for real-world defense roles:

  • CEH – Certified Ethical Hacker

  • CPENT – Certified Penetration Testing Professional

  • CHFI – Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator

  • CSA – Certified SOC Analyst

  • CTIA – Certified Threat Intelligence Analyst

“Our mission is to democratize cybersecurity training,” says Somendra. “Through AI-driven content, gamified learning, and strategic consulting, we’re empowering individuals, institutions, and industries.”

The platform also hosts Hackerverse CTFs, interactive quizzes, and an active WhatsApp community where learners, mentors, and experts decode threats and exchange insights.

The Grim Cybersecurity Landscape

  • A cyberattack strikes every 39 seconds worldwide

  • India, a leader in digital payments, sees 52% of organizations reporting breaches

  • Over 400,000 fake websites and DDoS attacks surface monthly

  • India alone has 1.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs, with global demand hitting 3.5 million by 2025

Despite this, awareness remains dangerously low. Many citizens fall prey to phishing, fake links, and identity fraud simply due to lack of knowledge.

Engineers’ Day Call to Action

This Engineers’ Day, AiCyber.Guru urges India’s technology community to:

  • Take the Cyber Pledge: Commit to learning, teaching, and defending

  • Get Certified: Enroll in cybersecurity certifications and become recognized defenders

  • Join the Community: Be part of AiCyber’s WhatsApp group as a mentor, expert, or learner

  • Engage in Challenges: Participate in monthly CTFs and awareness drives

India’s defenders must evolve from being technology adopters to innovators. It’s time to architect and secure the next generation of AI-powered cyber defense with indigenous expertise. True self-reliance means building security solutions Made in India, Led by India.

The tech community must embrace a security-first mindset—where safeguarding systems is not an afterthought but a foundation.

Whether you’re a student exploring careers, a professional seeking upskilling, or an educator shaping minds—AiCyber.Guru provides the launchpad to cyber excellence.

Final Word

Cybersecurity isn’t just a skill—it’s a civic duty.
As engineers, let’s not only build the future—let’s secure it.
